Classroom Connections Learning Foundation is a charity that has been developing innovative educational programs in Canada for over 20 years. The materials created are designed to engage and motivate youth (especially the disengaged) by providing them with non-traditional learning opportunities that are authentic and meaningful.
Twelve years ago, we began working with the 21st Century Learning Initiative and the Canadian Council on Learning to research alternative education models, programs and practices that better align with how humans learn best. Through this collaboration, we were able to synthesise research into specific learning principles and created a framework for applying these principles to life-long learning. Classroom Connections has also identified powerful skill development programs in a wide variety of areas (literacy, numeracy, social, emotional and cognitive) that support the principles and the framework.
Out of this, we have developed an extensive and holistic combination of high-yield programs that specifically target engagement with learning as well as skill deficits that are barriers to learning and ultimately to employment. For the past 10 years we have been working in partnership with Indigenous communities to help address youth disengagement from education and persistently high unemployment rates through the Change it Up initiative.
